The awards began in 2005 in conjunction with the 10th Annual Women & Leadership Forum sponsored by the Women & Leadership Alliance. More than 65 nominations were received, with all nominees being recognized at the Forum and in the Outstanding Mentors Stories booklet given to all attendees.
The success of that first Outstanding Mentor award encouraged the committee to send out a 2nd call in 2006 and the program has continued.
This gives students, staff, and faculty an opportunity to recognize a WSU community member who has filled the special role of mentor in their academic/professional career and/or in their personal life.
The program recognizes both formal and informal mentoring accomplishments at WSU.
